Glenmuir beat Garvey Maceo 2-0
published: Sunday | September 28, 2008

Adrian Frater, News Editor

WESTERN BUREAU:

GLENMUIR GOT some measure of revenge for their loss to champions Garvey Maceo in last year's final when they blanked their parish neigh-bours 2-0 in their big Zone I ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup fixture in Clarendon yesterday.

By virtue of Glenmuir's win, their third in four games, they now com-fortably lead the group standings with 10 points while the Garvey Maceo team, which lost for the second time in as many games, is four points back on six and has played one more game.

100 per cent win record

Over at Frome in West-moreland, Rusea's loss their 100 per cent win record but still remain unbeaten after coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Frome Technical in their high-profile top-of-the-table Zone B fixture at the Frome Sports Ground.

In a game of contrasting styles, Frome had much the better of the first half in which they took the lead through Ricardo Munroe. However, Rusea's stormed back in the second half and looked the better team, grabbing the equaliser through Tremain Perry.

"It was not our best game today but we should have won because we got the chances," said Rusea's coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams. "We would have preferred all three points but a point is not a bad result because it keeps us in front," he said.

zone lead

By virtue of the shared points, Rusea's continue to lead the zone with 13 points, while Frome, who have three wins, two defeats and a draw from their six games, are now in a major battle with newcomers Hopewell High for second place in the group.

In the big Zone E clash between former champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), who started the game in second place, and Munro, who were in third, the STETHS aggregation left Munro in deep trouble, spanking them 3-0 at home.

With surprise group leaders Lacovia High out front on 13 points, STETHS have moved into a close second place on 12, while Munro, with two wins, one draw and one defeat in four games, have dropped to mid-table with seven points. Munro have played a game less than STETHS and Lacovia.
