Tyme expressed confidence that the donation would be put to good use and that JPS would also yield positive returns on this investment. Stating that the utility company and the university were partners, Tyme pointed out that over the years, JPS employees had improved their qualifications through NCU programmes, thus advancing the company.
The JPS director explained the philosophy behind the company's philanthropy: "We at JPS are committed to helping young people find their place in society. We recognise that we have to give back to the community in a more meaningful way as we grow over the years."
appreciation
NCU president, Dr Herbert Thompson, voiced his appreciation of the sizeable gift. "We have always treasured the relationship that we have had with JPS ... and we hope that this partnership will grow from strength to strength." Thompson said. He thanked the JPS on behalf of "the hundreds of students" who are in need of financial assistance.
Susan Long-Gordon, director of alumni relations and student aid at NCU, also witnessed the handover of the JPS donation. She indicated that although more specific criteria had not yet been decided, the donation would help those most needy students who were excelling academically.
