The EDITOR, Sir:I would like to talk a bit about the transport system, especially the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC). I have learned one thing about Jamaica since being in Jamaica for the last 17 years, and that is that Jamaicans do not know they are customers and that they are king, or that they don't care.
Today, sir, I stood up from 6:15 a.m. to 6:50 a.m. waiting for a No. 74 bus from Barbican and then had to wait on either a 44 or 46 to get to a very esteemed high school on that route, for I am a teacher there. The bus did not come until after 7:30 and we didn't leave the Transport Centre until nearly five-10 minutes after. And not even an apology was given; only rudeness was dished out to an already irate public.
I am convinced that the JUTC does not care a fig that people pay their salaries at the end of the month. If all the people that I saw waiting in vain for their buses were to empty the Transport Centre and take robot taxis you would see the police come after them for taking persons away from the JUTC.
The JUTC drivers would have brought it upon themselves with their many efforts to sabotage the system and their many customers. It started so well, and we were gladdened to see the change in the system but sir, every time it gets good, we return to the old way things used to run and honestly, the JUTC customers are so fed up with the tomfoolery that they handle us as if we don't pay for their salaries. Please tell whoever is the new boss that Jamaicans are getting very fed up with their crap.
I am, etc.,
Irate passenger
