Orville Clarke, Gleaner Writer

With the Pick-9 proving elusive at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, the carryover to tomorrow's meet stands at $1.5 million.

With increased betting anticipated, a payout in excess of $2.5 million looks a real possibility.

Close contest

We look at the Super-6, which gets under way with a $470,000-$420,000 claiming race over 1100 metres to be contested by seven starters. With horses such as TWENTY-NINE, FIRETRAIN, GOOD SENSE, FUSILIER and the recent course winner RIGGED TO WIN present, it promises to be a closely contested race.

GOOD SENSE has good speed and if able to withstand fellow speedsters FIRETRAIN (now dropped in class) and TWENTY NINE (consistent), could hold on grimly to the line.

I suspect, however, that the race will be run at a hot pace and, in the end, the speedsters will play into the hands of the late-kicking RIGGED TO WIN (working well) who beat a good field over the distance on September 6 with champion jockey Omar Walker aboard. Walker again has the ride for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta.

Well-forward debutant

Next on the programme is the round five Stewards Cup and here the well-forward debutant BRUCEONTHELOOSE, with leading all-time jockey Winston Griffiths riding for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny, looks hard to oppose, based on his glowing exercise reports.

This handsome bay colt by Wheelaway out of Road To Justice should have little difficulty in leading home Walker's mount, YOJIMBO, in the eight-strong field.

Briefly, STAR OF THE SEA, who just failed to catch MINISTEROFJUSTICE over 1600 metres recently, should make no mistake in the fifth race over 1500 metres, specially with in-form Dane Nelson now taking the ride.

MAHARANI, who has been running consistently well, gets a glorious opportunity to open her account in the sixth, while it should be GALLAVANTER (regaining form) under two-time champion jockey Brian Harding in the seventh, and SINGINGIN-THERAIN over stable-companion IMAGE DANCER and ZUNZUN in the eighth.
