Shirley Willis gives thanks after coma
published: Friday | September 26, 2008

After a frightening accident and being in coma, former Grace Thrillers lead singer Shirley Willis says she is recovering fast in New York, United States.

The singer says she is on her way to a good health, after being in a coma from June to August.

"I am having a fast recovery. I am walking, talking and even eating my dinner," a happy Willis told The Gleaner.

Willis was in a coma at the Kingston Public Hospital after being in a major car accident on June 18.

After coming out of the coma in early August, she went to New York where she was being cared for at the Westchester Medical Centre.

Weekly visits

Willis says she was discharged from hospital last week Wednesday. Currently, a nurse visits her home three times weekly for her physical therapy.

She says she knows her accident frightened her family members and friends, but she is happy they were able to deal with her misfortune.

And she is grateful for the blessings that she has received.

"I just thank the Lord. He caused everything to happen. I just have to praise him and worship him every day," says Willis, who will make an appearance at a concert in Florida on October 11. The event is being held for her benefit.
