Garvey Maceo hit Central High for six
published: Sunday | September 21, 2008

WESTERN BUREAU:

CHAMPIONS GARVEY Maceo, behind a hat-trick from Mario Gentles, a brace from Mikhail Howell and a solo effort from André Prince, were all the rage yesterday, spanking Central High 6-1 in their Zone I ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup fixture.

"We probably missed one hundred chances before we finally ended up with the six goals we got," Garvey Maceo's coach, Jeffrey Hewitt, said jokingly after the game at Central. "The important thing is we got maximum points from the game."

By virtue of their win, the champions now have maximum six points from two games, having had a 2-0 win against Kemps Hill on the opening day of the season at Jarrett Park.

fought off challenge

Meanwhile, St James High fought off a determined challenge from former champions Herbert Morrison to win their Zone A Montego Bay derby 2-1 at Jarrett Park. Nicholi Barrett and Fabian McCarthy got the goals for the Pastor Hugh Solomon-coached St James.

"I thought we could have played a lot better but the boys were not as purposeful as in our first," said Solomon. "Nonetheless, it is nice to be winning our first game of the season."

Over in the competitive Zone B, former champions Rusea's made it two wins from two starts, clipping Green Island 1-0 on their home turf in Lucea courtesy of a superb strike by the wily Tremaine Perry.

"It is good that we got all three points but I thought we should have scored a few more goals," said Rusea's coach, Anthony 'Follies' Williams, whose team had a big 6-0 win against Merlene Ottey in their opening game. "I believe the team is holding its own in terms of composure.

Zone A: St. James High 2 Herbert Morrison 1, Irwin 0 Spot Valley 0, Maldon 1 Green Pond 0. Zone B: Rusea's 1 Green Island 0. Zone E: STETHS 9 BB Coke 0, Munro College 0 Lacovia 0. Zone F: Decarteret 2 Belair 0, Manchester High 1 Bellefield 0. Zone I: Garvey Maceo 6 Central 1.
