WESTERN BUREAU: Carl Masters' dreams have always been big, but it still amazes his father, Theodore, to watch the ease with which he rubs shoulders with presidents, prime ministers, congressmen and ambassadors.

"His journey from Porus, Manchester, to the rest of the world has given me a great sense of pride," said the elderly Masters in tribute to his son, who celebrated his 60th birthday with twin sister, Millicent, at a posh villa in the upscale Spring Farm community in Rose Hall, St James, on Saturday, September 13.

quieter of the two

Millicent Masters, obviously the quieter of the two, is an educator in Miami, Florida, while her brother heads the lobbying group, GoodWorks International, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia and Washington, DC.

Carl Masters' partner is former congressman and United Nations ambassador, Andrew Young, while his best-friends list includes former Nigerian president, Chief Obasanjo and Jamaica's former prime minister, Percival Patterson.

All three were among the guests who travelled from as far as South Africa to pay tribute to the siblings.

"In Carl I have a brother and a confidante," spoke Chief Olusegun Obasanjo of his friend.

"Anything Carl sets out to do, don't challenge him. It may sound impossible, but he will achieve his goal," said the Mr Patterson as he spoke passionately about the long friendship they shared.

For Andrew Young, their coming together was "divine accident".

The guests list at the party included Masters' wife, Hope; children, Saige, Chelsea, Vanessa, Rafrique and Baruch, as well as Carolyn Young; Jamaica's former honorary consul to Atlanta, Sylvia Ashley; Montego Bay businessman, Fred Smith; Judy Farmer and Courtney Hamilton; Faith Thomas, chair of the Montego Bay/Atlanta Sister City Committee, Metty Scarlett-Jones and husband, Carl; Roxanne Chin-Anguin, Shauna Chin, plus many more.
