People's National Party (PNP) delegates yesterday ignored the instructions of their presidential teams and voted based on their opinions in the vice-presidential race. The Portia Simpson Miller and Dr Peter Phillips teams had printed delegate voters' guides instructing the delegates to return the four candidates on their slates.
For Simpson Miller, the instruction was to vote for candidates one, two, six and eight, Noel Arscott, Angela Brown-Burke, Derrick Kellier and Joseph Witter.
Phillips' supporters were encouraged to vote for Harry Douglas, Dr Fenton Ferguson, Sharon Hay-Webster and Dr Wykeham McNeill.
But when the votes were counted, three members of the Simpson Miler slate emerged victorious, while one member of the Phillips team earned the nod.
Three sitting vice-presidents were returned, Brown-Burke who topped the candidates with 2,582 votes, Kellier with 2,302, and Ferguson, with 2,153 votes.
Arscott joined the list of vice-presidents with 2,166 votes to fill the vacancy left by Phillips.
Douglas finished at the back of the pack with 1,722 votes behind Hay-Webster 1,937, Witter 2,037 and McNeill 2,153.
