Students attacked at Calabar

Classes were disrupted at the all-boys Calabar High School in St Andrew yesterday morning when two students came under attack by the family members of another student.

The class was out of session because of the absence of the teacher.

It was reported that the boys were in a study session when they were assaulted by men who drove on to the school grounds, sending students scampering.

The incident allegedly involved family members who were retaliating against the stabbing of a student by another at the school on Tuesday.

Storming

Yesterday, a Gleaner team observed a number of parents and guardians storming into the school after they received word about the incident, but they were assured that the situation was under control by that time.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said the adults involved in the incident were taken to the Constant Spring Police Station.

The CCN told The Gleaner that it is not likely that anyone would be charged in connection with yesterday's incident since the adults have agreed to alternate compensation.

Miranda Sutherland, president of the National Parent/Teachers' Association, expressed contempt at the incident. "This sort of behaviour cannot be tolerated," she said, "our theme this year is 'Parents and teachers working towards a harmonious and prosperous society', and this is in total contradiction to that."

The Calabar administration declined to comment on the matter yesterday.
