A SECOND-HALF double from former national Under-17 representative McKauley Tulloch carried Kingston College (KC) to a 2-0 victory over Edith Dalton James in the Inter-Secondary Schools Association (ISSA) Pepsi/ Digicel Manning Cup competition yesterday at North Street.
In the day's other games, last year's beaten finalists, Bridgeport, defeated Cumber-land 2-0. National Under-20 player Andre Steele and Jamie Lynch scored for Bridgeport.
Poor finishing
KC, who were beaten semi-finalists last year, dominated the first period, however they were unable to capitalise on a weak Edith Dalton James defence due to poor finishing from the likes of Christopher Harrison, Orville Anderson and Tulloch.
However, Tulloch made up for his first-half misses when he put his team ahead five minutes into the second period with a powerful point-blank shot past goalkeeper Rushane Campbell.
Eight minutes later, Tulloch doubled the home side's advantage when he outsprinted three Edith Dalton James defenders and then rocketed home a thunderbolt past Campbell.
Morale booster
Despite his team's victory, Wayne Fairclough, coach of KC, said he was not pleased with the performance.
"I am not totally satisfied with our performance. How-ever, a win is a win because we needed these three points to give ourselves a big morale booster," said Fairclough, who is also the coach of Waterhouse in the National Premier League.
"The players were a bit nervous in the first half because they wanted to play well and impress the coaching staff, and I think this is what caused us to play the way we did."
Pierre Williams, coach of Edith Dalton James, said: I think we played well in the first half, but in the second period, we made some mistakes which led to the two goals. "I believe we need to work on our concentration and be a lot more focussed because we have a very talented set of players who can really play football."
