The Editor, Sir:I have read the story yesterday in The Gleaner titled 'Raped on duty - Constable sexually assaulted by her colleague searches for justice'.
I am a male and after reading this story, I, a man, must apologise to this female constable that by now will be viewing all men as dogs. Lady, this is not so, there are good males out there who are willing to support you in taking your fight to the next level and I, as a man, pray that when you are finished with those two police officers justice will be served.
For far too long, women have been abused by men and forced to remain quiet by friends, colleagues and family members. So, like Usain Bolt, this is your time to represent not Jamaica on a world stage, but those women who have been molested but are scared to speak out.
It is a shame that the police force is corrupted, both internally and externally, and as my mother would always say, the good have to suffer for the bad, as until there is no corrupt cop in the force, all cops are seen as corrupt.
Mrs Woman Constable, let them not pay you off to keep your mouth shut, let them not silence you, let not your colleagues or community's opinion stop you from doing your job. Instead, rape them back with the law, let the court system rape them, and when they reach prison for what they have done to you, let the prison system rape them.
I am, etc.,
St AUBYN RICHARDS
