The Editor, Sir:Once again, the residents of Nightingale Grove, St Catherine, are making an impassioned appeal to the Government for assistance with the flood threat we face on an annual basis. Yes, we are tired of our repeated requests for help, but we have nowhere else to turn.
We have heard several speeches from political representatives, saying to us that a change is coming. We have allowed them to place our hearts at ease by doing some temporary rehabilitative work to the Colburn River.
River training
However, the Government must weigh the cost of doing river training against either relocating the residents who are affected by the flooding, or seeing several Jamaican citizens - whom all politicians claim they love and are committed to serving - die by drowning or by having their homes collapse into the river.
Mr Prime Minister, we need your help because we have only our roofs left as a refuge for our remaining furniture. The market value of our homes has dropped faster that Usain Bolt's 100-metre record-breaking race.
I am, etc.,
A. PALMER
