"Lonely, I'm Mr Lonely, I have nobody for my own!" In this song, Akon best describes the perception that most people have about being single. It's easy to become jealous as you watch a couple stroll by hand in hand, or when you look around the movie theatre and realise that you're the only one sharing your popcorn with the empty chair beside you.
Some persons find it extremely difficult to be out of a relationship, for an extended period of time. "I'd rather be in a relationship with someone I would never marry than be single," said Sheldon. Others are glad for the freedom and pleasures that go along with the single life. Simone was eager to give her comment: "For as long as I can remember, I've been single. Trust me, it's wonderful! Especially now since I'm in school. Relationships stir up too much distraction and even drama."
Outlook Youth wanted to delve deeper into the lives of single teens in order to find out if being single is as bad as some persons make it out to be.
"Single life is not overrated 'cause it takes you away from the stress relationships sometimes bring."
- Dwayne, 24
"The best part of being single is the freedom! Your mind will be at ease constantly as you won't have to worry about what your partner will say if you do something spontaneous, or go somewhere or talk to a certain other person."
- Stephen, 19
"Single life is fantastic until you see your closest friends pairing off right in front of your eyes. You're left watching tumbleweeds roll by, 'cause everyone's too busy with their beau."
- KeVaughn, 18.
"You find yourself alone on a cold, rainy night with no company, but your blanket and your cat!"
- Marion, 22
