'LOVE GAMES' is back
published: Wednesday | September 3, 2008

When the curtains came down last December on Patrick Brown's Comedy revue Love Games, many patrons were disappointed that they didn't get to witness the theatrical spectacle before the production closed.

Unfortunately Love Games had to give way to the annual Jambiz Christmas Production (River Bottom) which had to keep its appointment with tradition - opening on Boxing Day.

Many patrons demanded that the producers bring back the production. Come Friday September 5, 2008 at 8 p.m. those patrons will have their way. Love Games will reopen at Centerstage.

Large turnout

During its run last year, Love Games developed quite a large following, with Jamaicans from all walks of life flocking to see the production. People from all walks of life sat side by side in the audience to soak up the best in Jamaican theatre. Patrons were able to find resonance with what had unfolded onstage - given the universal nature of lovers 'playing' each other.

The revue style of the presentation also proved popular with the audience, as they were really seeing six short plays (playlets) unfolding onstage, one after the other.

Aptly titled Final Game, the final part of the revue provided what can perhaps be described as the icing on a tasty cake. In Final Game, John (Glen Campbell) picks up a sexy female (Jane, played by Camille Davis) at his aunt's funeral at the Dovecot Memorial Park. They immediately hit it off and head off for a tryst at a nearby hotel. The evening is going pretty much to script for John until he receives the surprise of his life, and learns that picking up strange women has its consequences.

Theatrical Spectacle

One of the other outstanding features of Love Games is the surprise element, whereby the audience is taken completely off-guard as they experience an unusual theatrical spectacle, which hardly happens in local theatre.

Audience members are requested at the end of each performance not to reveal the 'surprise' to prospective audience members, so that they too could benefit. Based on the reaction at each show, it seemsthat the pact has been honoured.

Love Games will again feature a young, talented and exciting cast of actors, led by Glen 'Titus' Campbell, one of Jamaica's best known comedic actors.

Also returning are Camille Davis, Courtney Wilson, Noelle Kerr and Lakesiha Ellison.

The hilariously funny Christopher Hutchinson has been added to the cast and is bound to add flavour with his inimitable style of comedy.

After it's September 5 opening, Love Games will play Wednesday to Friday at 8 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
