Really 'Good Times'
published: Wednesday | September 3, 2008

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

This patron was certainly an attraction at 'Good Times' at Mas Camp on Saturday night.

After two days of being cooped up during Tropical Storm Gustav, persons were in on getting footloose at 'Good Times: The Funky Revolution' last Saturday night at Mas Camp Village.

The clear skies during the night set the stage for the young persons especially to come out, women mainly wearing short shorts.

One man's attire made a statement as he decked out for the era in an afro-puff hairdo, hippy glasses and a hippy shirt. Although the venue wasn't packed, it was comfortably filled with only a space left in the middle where the deejays were set up. Considering that persons were wondering during the day if the party was still being kept, it was a good turnout. Deejays Collin Hines and Denvo were on the turntables throughout the night, keeping the party in a mellow vibe.

Mechanical bull

A mechanical bull was set up at the back of the venue where mostly men flocked to have a ride. During the night, a few women got curious and attempted to stay on the bull. DJ Denvo romanced the women with hits such as Cassanova before he switched to disco as persons showed off their karate moves to Kung Fu Fighting. The vibe switched again as persons did a little 'dirty dancing' before the men called out their forwards for Junior Reid's One Blood.

The video cameras were out in numbers as persons bubbled for the video light, one woman especially got frisky with her male counterpart. The two showed off very acrobatic moves as her feet left the floor. Hines brought a brief wining period with some soca as a long congo line formed in the middle of the dance floor.

Selection of great hits

The soca music was followed by an awkward switch to slow jams, which had a few persons pausing, wanting to continue wining to upbeat music. After a while, some got into the music, mainly couples who hugged each other dancing. The single women were not as appreciative as one female cried, "a di couples time now, cause my man nuh deh yah, move to some dancehall".

After 3 a.m., persons finally got their wish fulfilled as songs from Beenie Man, Shabba, Bounty Killer and others followed. A wining competition started among some women as they went down to the floor, but they were outdone by one female in white, who wined down and stayed for a while. After 4 a.m., some persons began to leave while most stayed on to continue having a good time.
