PM's comedy, nation's tragedy
published: Wednesday | August 27, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Prime Minister Bruce Golding's plea for gunmen to stop embarrassing Jamaica evokes a sense of weakness, akin to a five-year-old's ear-splitting cry for intervention from Mom after her big brother took away her ice cream.

As Jamaica was swept up by Olympic fever, which caused symptoms of brain seizure for those with a utopian complex, fans and parents of Olympians called for criminals to put down the guns and end crime. What nonsense!

Feel all right

The ruthless scum of society responsible for infant killings, carnal abuse, rape and decapitation will not be swayed by the appeal of do-gooders who want us to "get together and feel all right".

The actions of thugs must be met with condemnation, contempt and an unflinching will to suppress crime, through a combination of force and social intervention.

These barbarians are as likely to succumb to remorseful 'cow-bawling' in response to Golding's rebuke as a mouse's squeak will send a cat scurrying. Toothless talk will only draw scornful giggles. If the prime minister has no teeth, it would serve him best to keep silent.

I am, etc.,

ANDRE WRIGHT
