Police ready
published: Wednesday | August 27, 2008

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has sought to assure that all the necessary measures are in place to police the country during the passage of Hurricane Gustav.

The Constabulary Communication Network says in order to ensure the highest level of security, the police have activated their standing orders in support of the National Disaster Response Programme.

The measures include the deployment of a police liaison officer to work with each parish disaster committee, the guarding of strategic installations, and providing security for designated shelters once they are activated.

With respect to law enforcement and public order, the police said they have taken steps to prevent looting and vandalism, especially in the country's business districts and evacuated communities.

Additionally, the police say they will continue to monitor hot spots.
