Disaster funds disbursed
published: Wednesday | August 27, 2008

Montague

The state minister in charge of local government, Robert Montague, says between $150,000 and $200,000 in emergency funds have been allocated to the emergency operation centres at the parish councils.

At the same time, he said flood-prone areas in St Thomas, St Mary, Portland, Falmouth and Trelawny are receiving special attention.

Montague said despite indications that the south coast would be spared the worst of Gustav, flood mitigation measures have started in the problem areas of Rocky Point and Portland Cottage in Clarendon and sections of St Elizabeth.
