The Editor, Sir:
While Jamaicans react angrily to Jacques Rogge for criticising Usain bolt's conduct after his extraordinary victories, let us be fair-minded and open to constructive criticism.
I believe Rogge said that although he personally thought the beating of the chest was distasteful to him, it was important that amid the euphoric celebrations, Usain remember to display good sportsmanship and take the time to congratulate some of the other athletes (who medalled).
While it is understandable that he was caught up in his moment, I don't feel it is wrong to bring that to his attention and that he takes this as part of his athletic training as well. Good manners is never inappropriate and deliberate bad manners is never excusable.
Furthermore let us remember, we must behave differently 'at home' than when we are on display in public ceremonies - the same as it would not be acceptable for Prime Minister Bruce Golding to let out a loud belch in the middle of a national address just because his wife had cooked him a delicious dinner before.
I am, etc.,
