THE EDITOR, Sir:THE PRESIDENT of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, should resign. The biggest blunder of these Olympic Games was made by this spineless, former orthopaedic surgeon.
His criticism of Usain Bolt's 'antics' is one of the most gutless acts in Olympic history. This truly is bad sportsmanship.
Spineless
A Swedish weightlifter threw his bronze medal on the podium; the Brazilian soccer team played like thugs in the final minutes against Argentina; a handful of athletes have tested positive for drugs, and there are reports of a 12-year-old Chinese gymnast competing - too young to compete, but Rogge is too spineless to speak out on that or, for that matter, on broken promises relating to China's Internet-censorship, or Tibet, or human rights.
Instead, he has a bone to pick with Usain Bolt, the greatest athlete of these games or any other games in living memory. There are plenty of things for Rogge to worry about. But the 'nuh linga' dance or Bolt's obvious enjoyment at his achieve-ments? Please!
The Jamaican Government should protest in the most forthright manner against this misplaced, patronising and condescending opinions of this spineless bureaucrat. A very public apology is in order, followed by Rogge's swift removal from a position he clearly does not deserve.
I am, etc.,
