Team PNP names spokespersons - Party chairman Robert Pickersgill says Maureen Webber was not a member of Team PNP
published: Thursday | August 14, 2008

Hanna

Team PNP, the group supporting Portia Simpson Miller's quest to retain the job of People's National Party (PNP) president, has omitted Roger Clarke, Colin Campbell, Phillip Paulwell and Donald Buchanan from its list of spokespersons.

As part of the rules of engagement, Arise and Renew (the campaign supporting Dr Peter Phillips) and Team PNP have been asked to name spokespersons.

Team PNP released its list yesterday, but there was no place for the usually vocal Team PNP members.

Those persons authorised to speak on behalf of the campaign are Lisa Hanna, Angela Brown Burke, Damion Crawford, Basil Waite, Ian Hayles, Natalie Neita Headley, Easton Douglas, Mark Golding, Raymond Price and Anthony Hylton.

No deadline

The Arise and Renew campaign is yet to name its spokespersons. Julian Robinson, the PNP's deputy general secretary in charge of administration, said no deadline had been set for the naming of spokespersons, but noted that the secretariat had hoped both teams would have already done so. He also said there was no upper limit to the number of spokespersons that can be named.

Meanwhile, party chairman Robert Pickersgill has moved to clarify the role of former PNP deputy general secretary Maureen Webber, who was yesterday referred to in The Gleaner as a member of Team PNP.

Assisting

Pickersgill said Webber was not a member of Team PNP, and was, in fact, assisting the secretariat in preparing for the annual conference.

Webber's role, Pickersgill said, was to develop and implement a system which would ensure distribution and collection of group delegate nomination forms.

The PNP delegates are scheduled to settle the question of party leadership on September 20, when they vote to either keep Simpson Miller or install Phillips.
