PM brushes aside Opposition allegations
published: Thursday | August 14, 2008

CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC):

The St Lucia government has brushed aside threats of legal action by Opposition Leader Dr Kenny Anthony over what he says is a cover-up involving a Cabinet minister.

Anthony has alleged that the Cabinet recently permitted Health Minister Dr Keith Mondesir to classify his private residence as part of a tourism facility he owns so he could take advantage of government concessions.

Illegal

The leader of the main opposition St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has said the decision is illegal because it was made in order to prevent the Customs Department from taking legal action against Mondesir for breaching the Tourism Incentives Act.

But King said the former prime minister is entitled to take whatever action he deems necessary once he has the evidence.
