The finalists in this year's Miss Jamaica World 2008 pageant made their first public appearance last Sunday, in a spectacular display of colour at the Sunday Family Brunch at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel. Cameras flashed continuously as the contestants turned up the summer heat.

The poolside of the hotel made the perfect catwalk as the girls paraded first in fashionable casual pieces by designer Neahlis and Uzuri International. For their second appearance, they wore brightly coloured swimwear by the Mushroom. This was a crowd-pleaser.

The sponsors revelled in the beauty of the finalists as they eagerly awaited their opportunity to select and sash the girl who would represent their organisation. Sashing was done in a random process, with three pre-sponsored girls being sashed first. The numbers of the other girls were placed into a lotto machine, courtesy of pageant sponsor, Supreme Ventures Limited. The sponsors drew from these numbers with the help of popular bingo announcer, 'Rampuss'. They sashed the girl who wore the corresponding number.

The girls can again be seen on August 9 and 10, when they will be presented in a parade at the Sovereign Centre, Liguanea, St Andrew, and at the Chaddiz Chateau on Ward Avenue, upstairs Fairway Distributors in Mandeville, respectively. The grand coronation show will be on August 16 at the Hilton Kingston hotel.

Until then, there are several training sessions, socials and entertainment activities planned for the finalists by the pageant's promoter, Spartan Health Club.
