Christopher Gayle has signed a three-year deal with international sports goods manufacturing firm, Ihsan Sports.
The deal, which will see Gayle receiving cricket gear and equipment from the company throughout the period, along with a sign-on bonus, was made official on Tuesday, arranged by the various stakeholders at the showroom of Locker Room Sports, Mall Plaza, in Kingston.
Locker Room Sports are the official distributors of Ihsan and Nike products locally.
"Basically, they have been after me for quite a while now but it is now that I have decided to join up with them," said Gayle. "It's a good deal for me and I hope it will be a start of what we hope will be a fruitful relationship," he added.
The deal, which is of a similar nature as Pakistan's Younis Khan, Ihsan's other major international signing, will see Gayle joining the ranks of 16 other regional players who have inked agreements with the company.
Excellent move
The others are Trinidadians Kieron Pollard, William Perkins, Dave Mohammed, Reyad Emrit and Samuel Badree; Jamaicans Tamar Lambert, Shawn Findlay and Danza Hyatt; Guyana's Narsingh Deonarine, and the Leeward Islands' Sylvester Joseph.
David Shirley, managing director of Locker Room Sports, said the deal is good and would benefit all stakeholders involved.
"The signing is an excellent move for Ihsan and I am sure that with Locker Room Sports being a part the mix, it will benefit all parties," said Shirley. "We hope that through Chris Gayle using the products more persons will become familiar with the Ihsan brand and Locker Room Sports, and more adults and children will get an opportunity to use them."
Ihsan Sports, which is based in Pakistan, also sponsors South African cricketers Justin Ontong, Loots Bosman and Alviro Petersen, as well as the national cricket teams of Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Kenya.
