The Editor, Sir:

With reference to the land titles fiasco, something really needs to be done. My mother died in 2000, waiting to get her land title for her property she bought in 1983, and we, as her children living in England, have purchased this land several times over with the amount of travelling we have had to do just to conclude business. The solicitor who was dealing with the matter has since died.

This matter is now in the hands of another solicitor, who has not responded to my emails, phone calls since September 2007 and, as such, I am now making the journey from England to Jamaica with the hope of getting a headed invoice for the quoted amounts due of J$55,000 so that the transfer fees can be paid.

Disappointed

I do not understand the logic of delays and non-communication in this the 21st century. I am so disappointed and frustrated. I believe in the principle that for whatever is due to you, belongs to you and no one else. My mother worked long and hard for what was hers and, with purpose in mind, she bought her plot of land to build her home.

So, I say to all of you people out their wanting to leave your property to your children or others, put their names on the deeds before you die. It will save a lot of time, money and heartbreak.
