CCTV - way of the future
published: Thursday | July 31, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance is a very good move by the government, and I hope they will continue this trend until the major cities and townships are covered.

I note the approval of the private sector, but I think that in a majority of cases, they could also help by installing these cameras in their business establishments. This is not only to protect their investments, but to make it safer for customers.

I know of a mall in St Ann where renters of shops arrive at their business establishments each morning with their fingers crossed hoping that their businesses have not been broken into.

This concern could be obviated, I think, if either the landlord would invest in these cameras, or if the tenants themselves could do so and share the cost among themselves.

Mr Editor, technology has to be the way of the future. It is not whether we can afford it, but whether we can afford not to have it.

I am, etc.,
