A WET AFFAIR
published: Thursday | July 31, 2008

Spanish Town, St Catherine

The eighth annual Ewarton Jerk Festival was a wet affair. However, many people still converged on the Windalco Sports Club to eat, meet and greet.

When The Gleaner arrived at 5 p.m., hundreds of patrons, some wearing plastic bags on their feet to keep away the mud, were still mingling.

50 display of jerk food

There were than 50 displays of jerk and other products, but jerk fish was scarce. "Bwoy mi nuh si noh jerk fish and that really concern mi, is not everybody love red meat and chicken," remarked Richard Saunders, as he enjoyed the ever-popular jerk pork, with his sons, Richard Jr and Alex.

His view was not shared by Jumelia Carter. "Mi like the festival, but every year mi come, especially fi the jerk pork," she said between sips of a cold beer.

Several persons said the event has become a household name in St Catherine. Along with exhibitors, whose stalls bore various items, there were also jerk rabbit, pork and chicken.

The festival also featured entertainment by Lady G, Beenie Man, Little Hero and others.
