St James custos suffers stroke
published: Wednesday | July 30, 2008

Nelson

WESTERN BUREAU:

The Custos of St James, Clarence Nelson, remains hospitalised after suffering a stroke at his Anchovy residence near Montego Bay on Sunday afternoon.

The custos, who has lost the ability to speak, is also unable to move the right side of his body. He was admitted to the privately run Montego Bay Hospital in Mt Salem Sunday evening, his wife, Lucille, told The Gleaner.

Still shocked by the events leading up to hospitalisation of her 77-year-old husband, Mrs Nelson said the custos was in good spirits on Sunday morning. "He drove to church and on our way there, he was in such a jovial mood," she noted.

Mrs Nelson said while at home about 5:25 p.m., her husband complained about feeling ill.

The custos was taken to the hospital where he was admitted.

Custos Nelson has been serving the parish of St James in this capacity for the last 12 years.
