"I LOVE Jehovah and I want to do his will," the Barretts declared after their baptisms on Saturday.

Wilfred Barrett, 55; his wife, Sharon, 42, and their daughter, Simone, 20, were among an estimated 50 people who were submerged in water at Sabina Park, Kingston, during the Jehovah's Witnesses District Convention.

RIGHT TIME

The Barretts' older daughter was baptised last year.

The family members said there were serious considerations before their decisions to be baptised.

"The time is getting shorter and shorter," said Wilfred Barrett. "This is something I should have done a long time."

He was the one who introduced his family to the Jehovah's Witness congregation.

Fulfilling service to God

His wife, Sharon, said she decided to get baptised because of her love for Jehovah. She believes her purpose is to serve Him and do His will by witnessing to others about Him.

"I have come to realise that it is for my benefit if I become baptised," she said.

Simone, who attends the University of the West Indies, told The Gleaner that she will not be pressured to do things that are against her faith.

"I know His requirements and I know what He requires of me, so I live accordingly," she said.

The weekend of August 1-3 will mark the end of the Jehovah's Witnesses District Convention.
