Portmore teams in semi-final tussle

Four teams will be chasing two semi-final spots in the Pines Imaging Centre/Keith Gentles Portmore Under-17 Football League today.

Zone B aspirants Watson Grove (18 points) are fighting for one semi-final spot in the group as they play a difficult match against Racing United at Watson Grove at 1:30 p.m., the first match of a doubleheader.

At 3:30 p.m., Garveymeade and Portmore Pines meet in a game of academic interest only.

At Cumberland, the home team (18) has an easy match against strugglers Portmore Gardens at 3:30 p.m. and a good chance of advancing ahead of Watson Grove. The opening match at the venue pits already qualified Daytona (22) against Wanderers at 1:30 p.m.

The Zone A semi-final hopefuls are arch-rivals Rodwood and Naggo Head. Naggo Head (18) have a crucial game against inconsistent Portsmouth at 1:30 p.m. at Portsmouth, which is a curtain-raiser for the Independence City versus Braeton United game.

Rodwood (18) will be seeking a win against Greater Portmore in a 1:30 p.m. match at Greater Portmore to put pressure on Naggo Head, while semi-final bound Portmore United tackle out-of-contention Dunbeholden at 3:30 p.m.

In other games, it will be Caymanas Gardens Site D vs Waterford at 1:30 p.m. and Hellshire United vs Christian Pen at 3:30 p.m. at Hellshire.

Portland KO cricket starts

The knock-out stage of the West Portland 20/20 cricket competition will take place today in the parish. Five matches will be played.

At Chepstowe, Kensington vs Bybrook (10:30 a.m.); Chepstowe vs Pigry at 2:00 p.m, while, at Skibo Oval, Oneaissaince vs Port Antoino Police Youth Club (10:30).

At Charles Town, Fourth Generation vs Orange Bay at 10:30 and Chepworth vs St Georges at 2:00.

After the preliminary round, Bourban topped the league with 24 points ahead of Kensington, Portland Masters and Oneaissaince (23 points each) in Zone One.

Sunshine (14), Fourth Generation (11), Pigry (8) and Chepworth (7) are the other Zone One teams that advanced.

In Zone Two, St Georges, with 25 points, came out on top over Chepstowe (21), Orange Bay (19), Swift River and Shirley Castle (15 each), Port Antonio Police Youth Club and Bybrook (14 each) and Black Hill (13).

JNBS win TT one-day rally

Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) made a clean sweep of all business house table tennis events contested on Tuesday.

In the one-day rally, which was played in the UTech auditorium, JNBS's Christopher Marsh won the men's singles title and teamed with Patrick Blake to take the men's doubles crown.

There was no play in the women's section this year as the only entry received was from defending champions Windalco.

JNBS, who did not take part last year, blanked defending champions Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) 3-0 in the final, to regain the team crown.

Earlier, in the four-team round robin group, they edged Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) 3-2 and stopped West Indies Alumina Company (Windalco) 3-1 to reach the final while JUTC blanked BOJ 3-0 and edged Windalco 3-2 to progress to the final. BOJ drubbed Windalco 3-0 in the third-place play-off.

Colin Fagandomino tourney

The Colin Fagan domino competition put on by the Member of Parliament for South East St. Catherine kicks off today with eight participating teams from the Portmore community.

The matches on are (home teams named first): Portsmouth United vs Portmore Lane Tigers, Passagefort United vs Westport United, Waterford United vs Westchester United and Garveymeade vs Ken's Wildflower. All matches start at 11:30 a.m. and the competition will run for seven weeks.

The winning team will receive $50,000 and the Colin Fagan Trophy. Runners-up will collect $25,000.

Multicare summer camp starts

More than 100 boys and girls are expected to take part in the Annual MultiCare Sports Summer Camp, starting tomorrow at Breezy Castle, downtown Kingston.

Held annually since 1994, the camp provides coaching in basketball, volleyball, netball, hockey and softball. Emphasis is also on the promotion of positive inter-personal relationships, peaceful coexistence, tolerance and understanding.

The MultiCare Sports Summer Camp is open to students from the MultiCare-assisted schools and from the neighbourhoods of downtown Kingston. Registration is under way.
