PERFORMER OF THE WEEK : Nangle in seventh heaven after CISC meet
published: Sunday | July 27, 2008

Kendese Nangle..."It was really nice to have my name and my country's name in the record books."- Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

THIRTEEN-YEAR-old Campion College student Kendese Nangle dived into the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) and emerged a multiple medallist and record holder.

The pleasant and sprightly teenager won a total of seven medals (two gold, four silver and one bronze) when the championships ended on Tuesday at the National Stadium Pool, and set three records.

In winning the 13-14 100m backstroke, she set a meet record and a national age-group record (1:08.19).

Set records

In the other event in which she won a gold medal, the 50m backstroke, she set another national age group record (31.08) in the heat before claiming the final.

Her other medals came in the 200m backstroke, 50m butter-fly, 50m freestyle and 400m medley relay (silver) and 400m freestyle relay (bronze).

Afterwards, Nangle reflected: "It was really nice to have my name and my country's name in the record books. In a way, I was expecting the 50-metre record more because I have it in the 11-12 girls' section."

Nangle now owns nine age-group records, beginning at the eight and under level, and is on the path to establishing more benchmark times as she keeps her ultimate goal in sight.

"I would love to go to the Olympics," she said.
