A song for Mandela
published: Sunday | July 27, 2008

Mandella

Members of the London African Gospel Choir, the Vox Choir and a Manchester Indie band are smiling this week after recording a birthday song for former South African president Nelson Mandela.

Prominent icon, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, had asked the choirs and Indie band, International One, to record a song for Mandela for his 90th birthday. The single, Inyaniso, meaning, 'The Truth', was released last week, just in time for Mandela's birthday, which was celebrated on July 18.

AIDS charity

All proceeds will go to Mandela's AIDS charity, 46664, named after his prison number, when he spent 27 years in jail for his anti-apartheid fight.

Mandela also recently received another birthday honour. A new law signed by current United States president, George Bush, has removed Mandela's name from US immigration watchlists.

This means Mandela, a Nobel Peace Prize Winner and anti-apartheid hero, can visit the US without state officials having to certify he is not what the US classifies as a terrorist.
