While Jamaica has impressed the world with the two fastest men on two feet, the nation will be taking things to another level when it puts on show, the fastest two men in the Caribbean on four wheels.
David Summerbell and Doug Gore will be demonstrating that they are equivalent to Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt when they parade their skills next Sunday at the Dover circuit in St Ann.
Dubbed the 'Freedom of Wheels' race meet, the event is expected to once more attract thousands at the seasoned circuit. Qualifying begins at 8 a.m. and the first race starts about noon.
"The car will be much faster this race meet," says David Summerbell Jr who has been working closely with his overseas mechanic to tune his car.
Summerbell, who dominated the previous race meet with his newly acquired Mitsubishi Evo, tells Automotives that his mechanical crew has made some changes to the vehicle and based on that, the car should be much faster now.
In the meantime, Gore has brought down an expert, Steve Havness of New Hampshire, who made some adjustment to his suspensions. Havness was in Barbados, where he was invited to tune the vehicle of Mark Malooney, who will also be participating in the Caribbean Circuit Racing Championship.
"I am coming to break Summerbell's record," that's the warning Gore has been giving.
Reports are that the expert also tuned the vehicles of Team MoBay, which include Gary Williams and Guy Fraser who are now more confident. According to Gore, at the previous meet, his opponents were much faster than him while negotiating the corners, but that has now been corrected.
most popular driver
Undoubtedly, the most popular driver at Dover, Peter 'Bull' Thompson, will be hoping to shake off the disappointment he encountered recently and come out as usual to have fun.
He missed out on the last meet with engine failure, but he has sorted that out and ready to avenge the Mitsubishi onslaught that he has suffered for the last two years with a turbo-charged rotary engine now in his possession.
His close friend Tedroy Burton confirmed that he will be there and that he will be coming to put on a show.
"My car is ready and I have corrected all the problems," says Burton.
