SPANISH TOWN, ST CATHERINE:Idle hands are not good, especially for young children, so the Blackwood Garden Citizens Association has made sufficient efforts to enrol 53 of its young ones in a summer school project.
The programme, which is in its first year, saw children ages three to 12, involved in activities at the residence of Lascelle Lewis and his wife in Old Harbour Bay.
When The Gleaner visited the facility, students were engaged in their daily activities, albeit in a garage.
Community effort
Lewis said it was a project conceived by a group from the citizens association, the church, headed by Pastor Thomas McDonald, and the Sacred Heart Foundation.
The Gleaner also learnt that Food For The Poor and the Peace Corps provided assistance with several reading books and desks for the project.
Food during the day is provided by residents.
