POLICE Commissioner Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin
Of the 8,281 members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, only 25 senior officers will be permitted to authorise the detentions of persons for up to 72 hours in jail.
This was disclosed by Prime Minister Bruce Golding on Tuesday in Parliament, while outlining legislative changes to the new crime initiative.
The prime minister said only officers at the level of assistant commissioner and upward will be able to give authorisation for the extended detention of criminal suspects without charge.
