What's Right with Jamaica
published: Monday | July 21, 2008

Kerr-Jarrett

Phenomenal nation

There are so many things that are right with Jamaica, it's hard to know where to start.

Apart from taking the world by storm with our phenomenal accomplishments in the areas of sports, music and culture, the Jamaican diaspora has repeatedly achieved world 'firsts' in political and professional leadership.

Our unparalleled beauty and tremendous natural resources aside, we are a resilient nation that exudes a unique sense of independence and individuality that has allowed us to bring hope to hopeless situations. We also find joy in the midst of sadness and not only get up when we are down, but stand up stronger than before.

Therefore, despite all that is wrong in our nation today, as a Jamaican living in Jamaica, I can proudly and confidently state: The best is yet to come!

Mark Kerr-Jarrett is a former president of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
