Woes of pensioners
published: Monday | July 14, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS heart-rending to see the number of pensioners at the Accountant General's Department at King Street awaiting their overdue pensions. Most of them, like myself, have a history of placing their life certificates in the box provided there, but cannot be accounted for. This results in our pensions being suspended.

I last got pension February 2008 and have been there four times and tendered two life certificates. To date, June 27, only a portion of one pension has been deposited to my account.

Bad treatment

On attending the Accountant General's Department today, I spoke to two personnel and was told to sit and wait until he returned. He left and went into the inner sanctuary where I was under observation, and remained until he departed from the department. This is just a glimpse of the treatment of pensioners after they have served their country. No wonder the younger generations are fleeing from 'the wrath to come'.

I am, etc.,

M. CHAMBERS
