Light on a hill
published: Friday | July 11, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

This is in response to Peter Espeut's column 'Avoiding the issue', published Wednesday, July 9. It is a rarity to hear such clarity!

I read your column whenever I get the chance, sir. You are a light on a hill, an island of clarity and truth in a sea of self-imposed denial and confusion.

We are now being led by one, who I thought would begin the revolution of leading us away from the current system of perpetual decline and decay.

When he admitted the nexus between crime and violence and political parties in Jamaica, Prime Minister Bruce Golding was on a path to greatness, but he resisted the temptation and succumbed to the disease that afflicts that particular type of political animal, sheer greed.

He got his just reward and is now the Don of all Dons! The former don can now rest in retirement in peace, without the threat of hearings and retributions.

And so, for that matter, can the Dons of the other political stripes.

Will the people who got us there, have the most to lose and are even now benefiting from the status quo 'fix' the problem? Absolutely not!!

So, what do we do? Keep the light shining, Peter!

I am, etc.,

Patrick in exile
