Corpse part of neglected garbage
published: Wednesday | July 9, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The citizens of Kempshot and Camrose in St James are outraged at the events of Tuesday, May 27, in which the body of a decomposed man was left unattended overnight on the side of the road in our community.

Though the police and the fire department did a professional job of exhuming and bagging the body, the body remained unattended on the side of the country lane from 11 p.m. until after 7 a.m because the undertaker was not prepared to respect the dead under cover of darkness.

The body was dumped in the gully because, for years, people have been allowed to use the gully as a garbage can.

There needs to be some action from Government to allow citizens to dispose of their garbage in a sanitary manner.

Government should clean the garbage dumped in the gully, enforce the Anti-Littering Act, provide designated garbage collection areas and provide garbage receptacles. Such support from Government will ensure that this practice ends once and for all.

Immediate action

For years, the residents of Kempshot/Camrose communities have tolerated the lack of Government support in garbage collection, road works and other issues that we rightfully deserve and pay taxes to support.

However, in light of recent events, we demand immediate attention to the various inadequacies that we endure on a day to day basis.

Let us not wait until another unfortunate event occurs in our community before action is taken. The time for change is now.

We are, etc.,

CITIZENS OF

KEMPSHOT AND CAMROSE
