BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):
Kennar Lewis and John Ross-Campbell hit centuries and Patrick Harty bagged a five-wicket-haul as Jamaica took first-innings points in a drawn encounter against Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) in their TCL Group Under-19 match yesterday.
Pint-sized left-arm spinner Harty picked up five for 61 from 31.3 overs, as Trinidad and Tobago who resumed on 189 for six, were dismissed for 232 after one hour in the first session in reply to Jamaica's first-innings score of 328 for nine declared.
The Jamaicans, with a handsome first-innings lead of 96, then took batting practice to compile 256 for five in their second innings before play was called off at the Banks Brewery Ground.
Maintaining runs
In the T&T innings, left-handed opening batsman Evin Lewis was left stranded on 140 in 373 minutes off 300 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes.
Lewis and Campbell then hit contrasting hundreds as the game moved to a tame draw.
Lewis struck a swashbuckling 106 in 130 minutes off 122 balls, which was enriched with seven sixes and six fours, while the more patient Ross-Campbell's unbeaten innings of 100 was compiled in 241 minutes off 167 deliveries and included six fours.
Left-arm spinner Javed Boodram was again T&T's leading bowler with four for 58 from 19 overs. He had taken three for 86 in the first innings.
The Jamaicans opened their second innings with West Indies youth player Horace Miller and Nick Blackwood and were separated with only 17 runs on the board, when left-arm pacer Rampersad bowled Miller for 16.
Jamaica were soon reduced to 34 for three, losing the wickets of Blackwood (8) and skipper André Creary (0) before Lewis and Ross-Campbell featured in a 160-run-fourth-wicket partnership in 130 minutes that took the sting out of the opposition's seven-pronged pace and spin attack employed by Trinidad and Tobago's skipper Adrian Barath.
Jamaica collected six points from the contest, while Trinidad and Tobago picked up three.
COMFORTABLE WIN
AT THE 3 Ws OVAL: Spinners Dario Cummins and Shadd Simmons captured four-wicket hauls to bowl host country Barbados to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Windward Islands yesterday.
Cummins took four for 19 with his left-arm spin and leg-break bowler Simmons bagged four for 26 as the Windwards slumped from 154 for four to 198 all out, six minutes after lunch.
This left Barbados, who led on first innings by 134 runs with a meagre victory target of 65. Opener Rashidi Boucher followed up his 96 not out in Barbados' first innings with a quick fire 37 off only 23 balls, decorated with six fours and one six to hasten the end, 45 minutes before the scheduled tea interval.
Off-spinner Dalton Polius removed Boucher, fellow opener Kraigg Brathwaite for 15 and Barbados' captain Kyle Corbin (6) to finish with three for 19 and match figures of eight for 82.
GUYANA WIN
AT KENSINGTON OVAL: Jeetendra Sookdeo stroked another composed half-century and steered Guyana to a five-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands yesterday.
The 17-year-old Sookdeo followed up his first innings 53 with 77 as the Guyanese - set 134 to win - completed victory at 134 for five in the first over after tea on the last day of the three-day fixture at Kensington Oval.
Young Montserratian off-spinner Tevin Osbourne was the most successful bowler for the Leewards, superbly snaring three for 44 off 18 overs.
Already trailing on first innings, the Leewards plunged into further trouble early yesterday when they could only add 23 runs to their overnight score off 116 for six.
It took Guyana just 36 minutes to wrap up the innings on a very good batting track.
Only wicketkeeper Javia Hamilton, who hit 27 off 95 balls in 96 minutes, offered any resistance to the leg-spin of Jonathan Foo (3-15) and pacer Leon Scott (4-37).
