Fresh from their fine performances at the National Trials a few days before, members of Jamaica's Olympic team were guests of National Commercial Bank last Tuesday evening.
The group, made up mostly of Maximising Velocity Performance (MVP) Track Club members, was lauded for its efforts and given words of encouragement to do its best at the games.
Jamaica will be sending a team of 85 members to the games including management officials. Apart from athletics, Jamaica will be represented in cycling, swimming and equestrian.
role models
Group Managing Director of NCB Patrick Hylton said the athletes represented Jamaica's greatest accomplishment. He hailed their ability to deal with the pressure of competing and painted them as role models. He expressed satisfaction at the association that exists between the bank, the MVP club and the Jamaica Olympics Association (JOA). After the formalities, guests took the time to get a few autographs and take a few snapshots with some of their favourite athletes. Guests included Nesta Carter, Nickeisha Barclay, Don Anderson, Paul Francis, Xavier Allen, Judith Riley, Olive McNaughton, Anneisha McLaughlin, André Edwards, Sherika Williams and Sherone Simpson.
