After thrilling and exciting moments yesterday, action from the Caribbean Karting Carnival resumes this morning at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston.

The three-day event climaxes this afternoon, and fans are looking forward to the rivalry between the top class Americans and Jamaicans in the Shifter and Rotax Minimax classes.

"Karting is where we will be getting our future world champions, because that is where it starts," said Errol Anderson, president of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC), who has given the meet his wholehearted blessings.

He believes the Jamaicans should do extremely well in the Shifter Class, based on their performance in the local championship.

"It should be an exciting meet. I am happy that we will have an opportunity to look and compare the talent of our karters with the world champions of America. This will tell us if what we are doing is right," said Anderson, who is expecting a bumper crowd.

Overseas competitors

The Jamaicans are up against the Trinidadians, Bajans and Americans.

The Trinidadian team includes Gerrard Carrington, Mark Gill, Brent Hurdle, Shahinder Singh, Ravi Singh, David Coelho, Raj Baboolal, John Paul Tannous, Ricardo Arguilera, Nicholas Narine Singh and Fyzool Madan.

Members of the Bajan team are Mark Kink, Allan Kink, Luke St John, Orry Hunte, David Evelyn and Matthew Noel.

Included in the American team are Frederico Montoya, a Colombian national who resides in Miami, Dore Chaponick, the 2008 Florida winter tour Minimax champion, and Jordan Perry, 2007 Homestead Florida champion, who will be coming to take on local Minimax champions Colin Daley Jr and Thomas Issa.

Shifter square-off

Trinidad and Tobago's shifter champion, Ravi Singh, will square off with Jamaica's Peter Moodie Jr, Joel Jackson and Ori Hunt from Barbados, and Matthew Mair, the 2008 Florida winter tour shifter champion. Mair is a Jamaica-based karter living in Miami.

Among the karters on the host list are Peter Rae, Peter Moodie Jnr, Andrew Simmons, Kyle Gregg, Matthew Mair, Joel Jackson, Chris Myers Colin Daley and Thomas Issa.
