Performer of the week: Edwards rallies Kensington to victory
published: Saturday | June 28, 2008

WITH AN unbeaten score of 106, Upston Edwards virtually assured that Kensington Cricket Club secured their spot in the Senior Cup final and kept their hopes of playing in Jamaica's Super League alive. It is this handy knock against St Ann that sees the 20-year-old batsman awarded The Gleaner Performer of the Week.

With the game last weekend evenly poised at 165 for seven chasing the visitors' first innings total of 217 and the loss of West Indies Under-19 batsman Horace Miller, Edwards stood like a rock at the crease, pushing Kensington to 302 all out for a match-winning first innings total.

During his time out in the middle, Edwards smashed 14 fours and two sixes and shared in a valuable eighth-wicket partnership with Akeem Dwar. Kensington and Hanover, two unbeaten teams, will now face each other in the final of the Senior Cup today.

The winner of that match will earn automatic promotion to the Super League while the losing team will play off against Westmoreland.
