The Latin American Women's Club recently presented cheques valued at $485,000 to several non-governmental organisations.
The presentations were made at the club's monthly meeting on June 10.
The 42-year-old club, which was founded by Maria Pinchin, the club's president, in 1966, was organised to raise funds to assist the poor and less privileged of the inner city.
TREMENDOUS EFFORT
Pinchin said it was a passion and love for giving to the less fortunate that drove the club's members every year. She commended them for their tremendous effort.
"Well, it's nice to give back to the less fortunate when you are in the position to do so," she said.
Representatives of the organisations that benefited from the donations all expressed gratitude and noted the impact the funds would have on the progress of their efforts to assist the poor and needy.
