Campbell touted for U19 squad
published: Tuesday | June 24, 2008

Fourteen-year-old batsman, John Campbell, is expected to be part of Jamaica's squad for the upcoming regional Under-19 cricket champion-ship which gets underway in Barbados early next month.

Campbell, who guided Jamaica and the West Indies' Under-15 teams to championships earlier this year, has been performing well at the national Under-19 trials and, according to Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) officials, he is expected to be one of the openers named in the squad.

A talented and aggressive right-handed batsman, Campbell, who bowls an occasional off-spin, guided Jamaica to the regional Under-15 title in April, before teaming up with his regional counterparts to help the West Indies defeat Pakistan and Bangla-desh in a tri-nation series.

The 14-member squad is expected to be named by tomorrow and is expected to also include two returnees, Norman Manley High batsman, Horace Miller, and St Jago High all-rounder, Garth Garvey.

Jamaica won the one-day title and finished second in the three-day component at the championships last year.
