published: Monday | June 23, 2008

Denbow

The Caribbean Cardiac Society has awarded Professor Charles Denbow for his significant contribution to the advancement of cardiology in the Caribbean.

Denbow was awarded earlier this month during a ceremony at the residence of the Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Nigel Harris.

Professionalism

Harris lauded Denbow's professionalism as an example of how medicine should be best practised.

Denbow has been actively involved in the teaching and nurturing of Caribbean medical students and doctors for thirty years.

He has contributed to the development of cardiology as a subspecialty in Jamaica including the pioneering of echocardiography, ambulatory electro-cardiography, exercise testing, coronary angiography and intervention cardiology.

Denbow is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians of London.

He has served as lecturer, senior lecturer and is now professor of medicine at the University of the West Indies.

Founding member

Denbow is a founding member of the Caribbean Cardiac Society.

The Caribbean Cardiac Society is a regional association of cardiologists, surgeons and allied health professionals from 29 territories in the Caribbean, North, Central and South America, as well as Europe.
