Highlights of action plans coming out of Jamaican Diaspora Conference:

Education

The establishment of an education trust fund, which will be financed by the Jamaican diaspora to provide proper infrastructure for schools and the funding of scholarships and bursaries for tertiary education.

Organise a diaspora youth group to teach English to primary-school students in rural communities.

Formation of an action group to lobby for mandatory early-childhood education in Jamaica.

Culture

Develop framework for strategic branding of Jamaica and quantify Jamaica's cultural industry.

Network support by working with the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports (ICYS) to share resources and programmes across the diaspora.

Work with the ICYS to provide framework and structure for the authentication of historical information.

Intellectual property - copyright Jamaican programmes and brand.

Recommend that the ministry of culture is given a single entity to reposition culture as an economic tool.

Develop a network of partnerships with embassies and high commissions to facilitate the smooth transfer of Jamaican culture across diaspora.

Church

Form mentoring groups in churches similar to the Big Brother, Big Sister groups.

Church and business communities coming together to facilitate growth in communities.

Further use of church building to maximise impact on community.

Further unity of umbrella groups across denominations.

Recognising racial identity in teaching blackness in the Church.

Church conference or crusade sponsored by the diaspora.

Church represented on the diaspora board.
