NOTE-WORTHY: Supporting the poor
published: Wednesday | June 18, 2008

Supporting the poor

I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to The Gleaner Company and Food For the Poor of Jamaica and Florida, USA, for their prompt responses to my appeal for support of a worthy cause. Through the help of these offices, some needy students will greatly benefit from 65 boxes of educational materials (reading, language arts and maths) which will arrive in Jamaica.

It is important that I say a special thank you to Fr Burchell of Food For the Poor, Jamaica as well as Ms Cris Green and her team from Food For the Poor, Florida. They all rose to the occasion and the support they gave was valuable and greatly appreciated.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate than ourselves and I honour Food For the Poor which has made addressing the plight of the poor its business. Thank you for supporting my effort.

Greenhouse farming

The Government can turn around a lot of the high-crime areas in Kingston by using greenhouse farming. For the first time in years, farming is a very viable option. These high-crime areas do not have large soil content, but the garbage-clogged open lands can be cleared and converted into greenhouse gardens.

Hotel chains can work with the Government to take these provisions from these communities. My point is we have to give people a chance to feed their families. There is nothing more gratifying than being able to feed your family.

Forex trading

Can you imagine, Mr Henry, if all the gangs in Jamaica were involved in forex trading? Gangs would be armed with the latest laptops instead of guns. They would be fighting to see which gangs offer the best rates and customer service.

In the last 20 years, I can't recall a single bank failing because of forex trading.
