The Editor, Sir:I read Kristi Charles' story last Friday and I am very happy that the Government of Jamaica decided to give her such an award. It can be very humiliating for a child to go through what she has gone through.
The greatest revenge one can ever have in such a situation is to do well. Kristi, I noted, is on the honour roll at her high school.
My advice to her is to continue to show the doubtful that you are not a one-hit wonder, because cheaters are never consistent.
Adults be careful
Adults, especially persons in influential positions (including teachers, principals and even the Government) must be very careful in the way they treat children. I think I know exactly how she felt, knowing that the whole of Jamaica probably thought that she is a cheater and dishonest. Such titles can follow you throughout your life.
I am very proud of you, Kristi, not only because you did so well in your exams, but also because you stood up for what you believe in.
keep the faith
I know it must have been tiresome fighting the Government of Jamaica. I believe in you and I know you are going to accomplish your goal of going to an Ivy League School in the United States of America.
To Kristi's parents I say never stop believing in your child. It was your belief in her capabilities that empowered her to fight and take her case to the court.
All the best Kristi! Hold your head up.
I am, etc.,
