Sammy Oh So to rebound

WHEELS OF LAW, one of three winners for jockey Oneil Mullings, is led inside the winners' enclosure by stable connections after her 14-1 upset in the Alty McKenzie Memorial Cup feature over 1600 metres at Caymanas Park on Wedneday. WHEELS OF LAW, who also won on the previous Saturday at 39-1, is trained by Robert Darby Sr. - Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

Tomorrow's annual 'Hall of Fame' race meet, hosted by the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC), offers a whopping Pick-9 carryover of $5.67 million, and with heavy betting anticipated, a payout in excess of $7.5 million looks a real possibility.

With outsiders such as PROSPECT QUE at 99-1, AGUILA at 52-1, SATISFIER at 22-1 and WHEELS OF LAW at 14-1 burning punters on Wednesday, the Pick-9 consolation prize of $4,063.50 was caught by 83 punters with six out of nine. There was also a Super-6 carryover of $1.66 million.

Seven starters

The Pick-9 embraces races three to 11; the Super-6 from five to 10. We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with the Cecil C. Langford plaque three-year-old and up claiming race ($220,000-$190,000) over 1600 metres to be contested by seven starters.

Bearing in mind the distance, the three that matter are SOY MUJER, MEDICAL ACCOUNT and FAST FLYER who takes a drop in class for this race.

SOY MUJER looks best equipped to pull it off, following her good second to SIR ROMEL in a recent mile and quarter race. | Down-in-class SANTA ANITA GIRL and the recent winner JAGMAR should fight out the finish of the sixth race for the Heir Apparent plaque over 1400 metres, this for $180,000 claimers.

The free-running bay filly SANTA ANITA GIRL, to be ridden by veteran jockey Everton Miller who recently shaved off his locks, will no doubt set off in front and could slip this field. However, the three-year-old filly LADY OF VENICE, MICHAEL POWER and the grey JAGMAR should ensure she is extended in the 11-strong field.

SAMMY OH SO, who failed in his bid for the hat-trick when stepping up to high claiming recently, is tipped to resume winning ways under champion jockey Omar Walker in the seventh race for the Caroline Park plaque (claiming $325,000-$300,000) over 1400 metres.

Back-to-back wins

Trained by Frank Parham who saddled the 99-1 outsider PROSPECT QUE to a big upset on Wednesday, SAMMY OH SO had previously won back-to-back races in good company and now back among his peers, should win from the Saturday's scorer CAPTAIN BONE and the consistent SHAHID.

Briefly, OUTFITTER who failed by a short head to catch RIO INFINITO recently over the straight, gets the nod over TAKE FIVE and FELICIDAD in the eighth for the A King Is Born plaque. The day's co-feature for the Ren Gonsalves Memorial Cup over 2000m should resolve itself into a straight fight between GOOD COMPANY (who was a close third over the distance in last November's Superstakes) and the lightly weighted filly SCHIZANDRA.

The day's feature for the 'Hall of Fame Stakes' Trophy (open allowance) over 1200 metres should see the fleet-footed three-year-old colt SUPER DAVE (Simpson up), who finished only 3 3/4 lengths fifth to MEDICAL REPORT in the recent Lotto Sprint, staving off the consistent CRUCIAL POINT with Walker astride.
